Give the Gift of Reading this Year

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas—or whichever wintry holiday you choose to celebrate! This time of year, many of us wonder what the best gift is for our loved ones. A new pair of gloves to keep them warm? Jewelry? Gift cards? While all of these are great ideas, we’ve got something here at SCPL that is sure to please.

Books allow us to travel across the Earth and to the borders of space. They can transport us into other realms of fantastical kingdoms or through time itself. Books allow us to step into someone else’s shoes and experience life as we may never otherwise understand. Books can teach lessons to both young and old, about life, love, and the human experience.

Books can do all of this and more, and we’ve got thousands of books on our shelves here at the library waiting to be discovered by you! The best part? They’re free.

This holiday, come into the library and sign up yourself and your family up for library cards! All you need is proof of identification and proof of address. There is no age limit so you can sign up your children and not worry about their books eating up your checkouts! With sections for adults, young adults and teens, tweens and children, we’ve got something to please everyone!

What’s more, with your library card you gain access to thousands more eBooks through Hoopla and Overdrive. Or check out Mango Languages where you can learn everything from Scottish Gaelic to Japanese! With your library card you gain free access to over 20 online resources!

There is a lot to choose from when it comes to giving gifts this time of year, but few are better than the gift of reading. So come visit us at the library today or visit our website and sign up for your free library card, your key to adventure!
