Exhibits, Pirates, Princesses, Music, Reptiles and More: What’s Happening This June at the Library?

June Summer Reading

Summer Reading has officially begun here at Scott County Public Library! But besides reading, what else are we offering in the month of June? Exhibits, Pirates, Princesses, Music, Reptiles and More! Below is a short list of just some of the featured events happening this month. Remember, you can see all of our upcoming programs by visiting our website’s calendar, where you can also register for programs to reserve your spot!

Lens, Lines & Linage: Art Gallery Exhibit
We are excited to welcome the works of Ed Boden, Margie Rigney and Jawanna Herd into our gallery! Mr. Boden will display his landscape photography. Mrs. Herd’s work will include her assemblage with visual hangings. Margie Rigney will be wowing the crowd with her eclectic mix of color and line. Exhibit opening will be on Friday, June 10th from 5 to 7 pm. Come join us for this first in-person exhibit opening at the library in two years!

Steel Appeal: Steel Drum Band Concert
Be carried off to a tropical island as you enjoy the music of Steel Appeal, a steel drum band from Kentucky. They will not only share their wonderful music but their knowledge of this unique musical instrument and musical styles, such as soca, calypso, pop, and samba. They will also share the history of the instrument. Come support local musicians and enjoy Steel Appeal in the Community Room, Saturday June 11th at 3:00.

The Kentucky Reptile Zoo
We’re welcoming Kentucky’s finest reptile zoo into our Community Room for some scaly fun! The “Lifestyles of the Sleek & Scaly” program will bring a variety of reptiles, centering on the diversity of the reptilian world and the unique characteristics of each individual creature. This is a teen program and we are asking that only ages 12 and up attend. Please remember to register.

Science in Play2Go
Ready, set, play! For the first time ever, we have an exhibit in the Children’s Department! We’re excited to announce that Science in Play2Go, a miniature version of Kentucky Science Center’s signature Science in Play exhibit, is now open regular hours from June 4th through August 28th in the Youth Department! The elements of the exhibit include creating your own rollercoaster, engineering with big blocks in Build Your World, or visiting the Shapes and Stuff Store – all of which encourage open-ended thought, collaboration, and creativity – fundamental skills that provide the foundation for future learning. This exhibit is designed for ages eight and under, but all ages can have fun with science! We will even have a Teens Only Night in July!

Pirates, Princesses and Sharks! Oh My!
Join us for this family fun event full of Pirates, Princesses and Sharks! Everyone is encouraged to dress up with our staff in your best pirate, princess or sea creature outfits! We’ll play shark toss, engage in pirate shenanigans, do crafts, and have a dance party! We will also have a surprise appearance from a certain red haired mermaid princess who luckily will have her human legs to dance with us! Please register for this family event because space is limited! Recommended for children three to twelve, guardians must stay to supervise.
