It’s Not Too Late to Join Summer Reading!

Summer Reading is half way over! Have you picked up your reading log? All ages can complete their log for a chance at fun raffle prizes! Plus, kids get a free pool pass to Suffoletta Aquatic Center for our end of summer party! Read on for more information. But besides reading, what else is happening this month?

Music for Preschoolers with Sable: We’re excited to announce the return of one of our favorite music programs, Music with Sable! There will be music, singing, and dancing with local music instructor Sable Snyder. There will be no shortage of fun for preschoolers and their grownups! July 8th at 10:00 am.

Tween Sip2Go After Hours: You’re never too old to act like a kid! Although our science exhibit is designed for ages younger than eight, today we’re turning it over to the tweens! Once your tween has turned in their permission slip, they will create awesome light-bright designs, build forts with giant blue blocks and more! You may register your tween online or by picking up a permission slip at the youth services desk. July 8th at 7:00 pm.

Teen Bermuda Breakout Game: Do you think you’re clever enough to escape the Bermuda Triangle? You’d better hope you solve the riddles, decipher the messages, and find all the clues or you’ll be lost forever at sea! Parents you can register your teen online. July 12th at 6:15 pm.

Adult DIY Craft: Don’t let the kids have all the fun this summer! Register for this DIY craft and make your own beachy décor. All materials for crafts at the library are provided, just bring your creative spirit! This month we’re making yarn balls, which you can hang on their own or turn them into luminaries for your next nighttime party! July 13th at 2:00 pm.

Barry Mitchell Magic! Deep Sea Circus: Who is Barry Mitchell, you ask? Barry Mitchell was formerly a street magician in the New Orleans French Quarter, a regular opening act for country music stars, the featured comedian at Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede Dinner Attraction, the Oreo Magician for the Southeast, and a lecturer at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood and the Magic Circle in London! Phew! Did you get all that? Now he comes to you, for FREE, at the library! This is one event you don’t want to miss! Children’s program, July 15th at 11:00 am.

A Night with Henry Clay, A Kentucky Chautauqua performance: History buffs and theatre lovers alike, you don’t want to miss this program! One of the most widely respected political figures of his day, with a gift for bringing people together and finding a national identity for his country, Henry Clay was a remarkable American and one of Kentucky’s most famous residents. Tonight, you will travel back in time and meet this charismatic figure who is largely credited with saving his country by allowing it time to prepare for and to endure through the Civil War. This Chautauqua program is made possible by the Kentucky Humanities Council and their generous sponsors. July 21st at 6:30 pm.

End of Summer Reading Pool Party: Now, back to that pool party we discussed! Everyone who participates in the SCPL Summer Reading Program is invited to join us at Suffoletta Aquatic Center, July 29th (rain date July 30th) for a library sponsored pool party! Tickets are required! Tickets are FREE for all participants turning in a completed reading log starting July 1st (deadline is July 29th before event). You will receive one family ticket, available from Library Information Desks.  Remember, you must bring your ticket with you to enter the pool! Haven’t started on your reading log yet? What are you waiting for?? Come into the library today to grab your log and let’s get reading!
