National Library Week at SCPL

National Library Week was first observed in 1958, when the American Library Association (ALA) sponsored the event and encouraged libraries across the nation to participate each April. National Library Week, which runs April 4th through 10th, is a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries and librarians across America and promote the use of the nation’s libraries and their resources. Here at the Scott County Public Library we are celebrating by bringing back in-person children’s programs, sharing our libraries resources, spotlighting our amazing employees, and running a free giveaway of an Amazon reading tablet!

All through the month of April and May we will be running a #DidYouKnowSCPL campaign that will showcase our vast services and resources here at the library. For example, did you know that we have two 3D printers that are available for public use? Or that we have free notary services? Or a recording studio with professional equipment? All you need in order to use these things is a library card! Make sure you’re following us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok, to stay in the loop about awesome library services. If you live in Scott County, keep an eye out for our SCPL Library Services Guide which details the services that our library offers and how to use them. It will arrive in your mailbox at the beginning of May!

While you’re following us on Facebook, watch for our upcoming employee spotlights! Tuesday of National Library Week is National Library Workers Day, a day to celebrate our wonderful employees that keep SCPL functioning at its fullest potential. Our employees are like our family here at the library, so we’re using this chance to honor their contributions and showcase their unique personalities!

To finish out our National Library Week celebration we are running a free giveaway for the entire month of April. You can enter for a chance to win a free Amazon Fire reading tablet. All you need to enter is a library card. You can register for one online or in-person at SCPL, but you must come to the library to enter the giveaway. The winner will be drawn at the end of April and announced at the beginning of May, so make sure to come to the library to enter before time runs out! Good luck and we hope you have a great National Library Week!
