In 1987, in order to recognize the many accomplishments of women throughout history, the United States Congress designated the month of March as National Women’s History Month. According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, “the significance of the month of March dates to the mid-19th century when, on March 8, 1857, a group of female garment workers in New York City staged a protest to demand better working conditions and pay.”
Here at the Scott County Public Library we join with other libraries to emphasize the achievements of women in the fields of science, politics, law, sports, the arts, entertainment, and many other fields. Come explore the biographies and videos that are part of the library’s collection.
