Heart of the Turf: Racing's Black Pioneers

The exhibit will be on display throughout February

This groundbreaking exhibit follows the lives of Black horsemen and women from enslavement, to today. The exhibit will engage visitors with interpretive panels, photographs, artwork, artifacts, and video interviews. From the Keeneland Library collection, more than 100 photographs captured moments across horsemen careers. LaVon Williams has commissioned artwork, and loaned artwork from the Kentucky Derby Museum, the International Museum of the Horse, and private collections that honor their lasting legacies.

    Featured scheduled events:
〉Children’s lecture on February 1 from 4:00–4:45 PM
〉Adult lecture on February 5 from 6:00–7:00 PM

All photos and videos are provided by Keeland Library

The Art Gallery located inside the Scott County Public Library is a unique space that provides opportunities to enhance the community’s appreciation of the arts. Curated exhibits featured in the Gallery are family-friendly, easily accessible, open to the public during regular library hours and are free of charge.

The Gallery Curator plans and facilitates two types of exhibits. Solo shows present a large body of work from one artist; while potpourri shows feature the work of a group of artists, each of whom have more limited bodies of work or experience.
