Our Kentucky Room houses a variety of materials pertaining to Scott County and Central Kentucky. Genealogists and researchers with a focus on local history will be interested in both our cataloged collections, whether circulating or reference materials, as well as our Special Collections and Family Files.

Reference materials specific to Scott County can be found on the local history reference shelf, though the library may own additional, circulating copies of certain published works. The major emphasis of the local history collection is historical, but it also includes current information on Scott County and Kentucky.

Kentucky RoomThe Kentucky Room microfilm collection includes local newspapers and data pertaining to Central Kentucky. Researchers have access to two microfilm readers with options for printing or creating digital files for researchers.

The focus of the genealogy collection is on Scott County, Kentucky families.  Our Family Files contain over 250 surnames.  However, there are also published family genealogies, as well as cemetery records, vital records, biographical works, atlases, maps, family and personal papers, and even oral histories.

Our digital collection is consistently growing, whether from digitization efforts or due to additional contributions.  Many of these materials can be found within our keyword searchable digital archives.  Additionally, oral histories gathered by the Scott County Public Library staff can be found within the Louie B.
