This gallery opening will feature the gold leaf/oil-on-canvas works of Devan Carpenter. This specific body of work is a tribute to the artist's paternal grandmother. Devan Ryan Carpenter is an emerging artist who resides in Frankfort, Ky. Her brightly colored work largely features landscapes and portraiture done in a modern romanticism. She strives to paint “scenes that take the familiar and re-imagine them in a world of the unexpected.” Oils paired with metal leaf are her primary medium, though, she does enjoy sketching in charcoal and pastels. Her work is influenced by the French Impressionists, the Austrian expressionist, Gustav Klimt and the contemporary master, Ed Sandoval.
